A note from Mason’s foster mom:
“Hello, my name is Mason. I am a 12.5yr old 24lb male Pekingese. I am 65% blind and have limited hearing, but love when you call my name, so we are asking that you don’t change it. Unfortunately earlier this year, my owner went into a nursing home so now I am looking for my forever home. I am good with other dogs and cats. I am 100% potty trained; I even go out in -27-degree weather, if you forget to take me out, no worries, I will bark loudly to alert you, because I am a very good boy. I live with 3 Shih-Tzus & an elderly cat, they all have tried befriending me, but I am indifferent to them. My foster Mom spends time during the day giving me head & ear rubs; they’re my favorite. I have boundaries I will need you to understand, I have taught my foster Mom all of them so she can fill you in if you choose me! My foster home has an awesome, special area for me with a direct route to the front door; I love my crated area, it’s calming & secure. I am a loving canine and do want some affection, but no cuddles & don’t pick me up. I do not like being on high areas like a bed; please understand I love “my place.” Keep in mind, because of my limited sight, it will take me a little time to learn your home, and please don’t rearrange or I will bump into it. I’m 60% deaf. I do hear my name though & it’s exciting! I will come to you if you say “Mason,” Come!” I also know “Good boy” and “Potty Outside.”

Do you like structure/routine? I do it! I sleep all night in my place & after you wake me up, I stretch a lot, rub my eyes & promptly go outside and pee, I like breakfast served directly after, then go outside again to poop! I nap most of the day till I know it’s time for dinner if you forget, no worries I will bark to let you know! I am good on a leash, no issues, just walk slowly, please. I like belly rubs but on my terms, no worries foster Mom can show you. I love ear rubs, top of head massages and will grumble in pleasure; it’s my way of say OMG thanks! My foster family says I am a good boy & easy to care for. My foster family loves me, even with my boundaries & hopes to find me a forever home!”

All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested and started on Tri Heart Plus; Vectra 3D.

All family members and any dogs from the household need to be present at the time of the adoption.

Please fill out an online application and we will give you a call as soon as we receive it. Visit our ‘Adopt’ page to view adoption process steps, policies, requirements and FAQ. View our ‘Visit’ page for hours and directions to our shelter. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Our website is always kept 100% up to date with who is currently available. All new animals (40/week) are added to the site 2 weeks before their availability date to give you time to fill out your adoption application and get the family ready to come out to the shelter that day. As soon as animals are adopted, they are moved to the Adopted Pets page so if they are still listed on the Adoptable Dogs or Cats page, they are still available. So keep any eye on the site for any animals being added as available for adoption as new animals are added everyday! We would recommend if you haven’t done so already that you submit a general online adoption application with us so it is on file for when you are ready to come out and adopt. The adoption counselors will be able to show you many that would be a good fit for your family. We do go in order of when you submitted your application with us. So it is always best that you get your general application for any animal in with us as soon as possible.
