A few words from his foster family: “He is sweet, gentle, calm and loving. I’ve never once heard him bark, though he did whine a tiny bit once when a dog was barking at him. He’s just an angel. His nature is very submissive, and he’s quite sensitive. He responds to the smallest, firm but gentle verbal corrections. He basically ignores cats. We’ve found him lying next to our cat on the couch, and once even on the dog bed. We’ve also seen him waiting for a turn at the water bowl. The cat is the boss, and Copper respects his space.

He’s amazing with kids. Ours are special needs, and he is a gentle presence when they’re having a hard time. He’s been delighted with the neighbor kiddos who want to give him attention, and gives space with gentle correction to kids who prefer not to touch him. He’s clearly been crate trained. We don’t even have to say “kennel up,” just act like we’re getting ready to get into bed, and he lies down in the crate and waits for us to tell him good night and close the door. The couple of times we’ve needed to crate him when we had to briefly go somewhere, he popped right in on request with no hesitation.

He’s comfortable with his ears, paws, mouth and tail being touched, so things like grooming and vet visits should be no problem. He sits calmly and seems content in the car, so taking him places should be no problem. He has a very soft, gentle mouth and is lovely about taking treats from your hand. No worries about kids getting nipped fingers.

He sort of knows sit and will do it for a treat, but acts like he’s never heard it before it you ask him to do with without a reward in hand. If you ask him to lay down he flops down and gives you belly. Same with paw. Very submissive, so when he’s uncertain he defaults to giving belly. He enjoys snuggling on couches and beds but waits to be invited up.

All dogs are microchipped, neutered/spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested and started on Tri Heart Plus & Vectra 3D.

All family members and any dogs from the household need to be present at the time of the adoption.

Please fill out an online application and we will give you a call as soon as we receive it. Visit our ‘Adopt’ page to view adoption process steps, policies, requirements and FAQ. View our ‘Visit’ page for hours and directions to our shelter. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Our website is always kept 100% up to date with who is currently available. All new animals (40/week) are added to the site 2 weeks before their availability date to give you time to fill out your adoption application and get the family ready to come out to the shelter that day. As soon as animals are adopted, they are moved to the Adopted Pets page so if they are still listed on the Adoptable Dogs or Cats page, they are still available. So keep any eye on the site for any animals being added as available for adoption as new animals are added everyday! We would recommend if you haven’t done so already that you submit a general online adoption application with us so it is on file for when you are ready to come out and adopt. The adoption counselors will be able to show you many that would be a good fit for your family. We do go in order of when you submitted your application with us. So it is always best that you get your general application for any animal in with us as soon as possible.
