Temperament: PLEASE READ: Tank has been diagnosed with a severe congenital heart condition called subaortic stenosis (SAS). His adopter must be prepared for ongoing cardiac care and understand that his lifespan cannot be predicted. Tank is such a sweet, happy puppy who absolutely loves life! You would never know from meeting this cheerful boy that he has a serious heart condition. He is affectionate, playful, and full of all the wonderful puppy energy and personality that makes it impossible not to fall in love with him. Tank was evaluated by a veterinary cardiologist and diagnosed with severe subaortic stenosis (SAS), a congenital condition that causes an obstruction to blood leaving the heart. He is currently on heart medication and will need continued veterinary and cardiology care throughout his life. The difficult part of Tank’s diagnosis is that we simply do not know how long that life will be. Published veterinary literature reports an average lifespan of approximately three years for dogs with heart measurements in Tank’s range, but his cardiologist explained that the prognosis is extremely variable. He has seen dogs with severe SAS live well beyond those expectations and continue to do wonderfully. Unfortunately, other dogs can develop a life-threatening abnormal heart rhythm and pass away suddenly, sometimes without warning. We don't want Tank's diagnosis to define him, because right now he is a happy, loving puppy who deserves a family and a life filled with all the good things puppies should experience. We are looking for a special adopter who can love Tank for however much time he is given and who understands both the emotional and medical commitment that comes with adopting him. Our adoption team will provide interested adopters with more detailed information regarding Tank’s diagnosis, prognosis, medication, follow-up care, and cardiologist recommendations before adoption.

All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption.

All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption.

Appointments are recommended. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family.

Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. We also cannot guarantee the ages of our adoptable animals or how large puppies will be when fully grown.
